Housing Hierarchies

I produce this body of work by making hand-drawn transparencies with ink pens of varying points. The transparencies then act like photo negatives in making the resulting cyanotypes on paper.

Just like there’s a spectrum of wealth, this series explores the concept that there’s always someone above you, and always someone below you, as applied to housing. In this case I’m focusing on housing in my neighborhood on the Westside of L.A. Spec houses and luxury apartment buildings abound amid public housing and tent homes. If I had to move, I couldn’t afford to live in my neighborhood (thank you rent control; no thank you gentrification and market-rate rents and home prices).
